Dr Graeme Cavers will speak on Crannogs in Galloway: Iron Age Lake Settlements in the South West.

Crannogs – ancient artificial island settlements – are a feature of the Galloway landscape. Since water logging preserves wood and other organic artefacts crannogs are of major archaeological significance. The talk will give an overview of recent investigations of Galloway crannogs and what they tell us about life in Scotland in the prehistoric and early historic periods.
