Glenlochar Roman Fort

Aerial photograph of Glenlochar Roman fort. Canmore collection

This fort is located on the east bank of the River Dee two miles north of Castle Douglas and approximately one mile north of Threave Castle. Aerial photographs taken in 1949 revealed previously unknown sites of a Roman Fort and five camps dating back to the “Age of Invasion” in the 1st-2nd centuries AD.
