Sailing ships. The large vessel on the left of the picture, with fancy scroll work at the bows is the Scandinavian three-masted Barquentine “Sofie”, which called frequently at Kirkcudbright in the early 20th century, carrying beans from Morocco. She was often referred to locally as “Sophie”.
