This arch was originally at where Fisher Street is now. The arch is now on the Moat Brae.
Fisher Close. The west side of Fisher Close was demolished to allow access to Dovecroft
These houses were demolished to build the Police houses. The window was saved by Jessie M King and installed in the Greengate where it still is.
These houses were known as the Doocots. With their gables and closes at right angles to the High Street they were typical of their day. The closes were Spout and Kinnel and are now 22 and 32 High Street. The ladies have probably been for water from the pump at the end of Spout Close, hence its name.
The antiquity of the houses removed to build the Police houses can be seen in this photograph.
