The detail of a decorated cross has been revealed after months of painstaking cleaning and conservation work, in time for an exhibition opening, in the National Museum of Scotland, in February.
The cross is decorated using black niello and gold leaf and shows, in each arm of the cross a symbol of the four evangelists.
