There are over 3,000 of Rock Art carvings across Scotland, and a large concentration of them can be found in Dumfries and Galloway with around 80 near Kirkcudbright alone! They date back several millennia to the Neolithic period (4100-2500BC) but what they represent remains a mystery.
For two days this June, Can You Dig It is teaming up with some members of the Kirkcudbright Rock Art Team to investigate the ground around a couple of these sites and look for any artefacts or structures that might tell us more about their location. It’ll also be a great chance to spend some time looking up close at these beautiful carvings!
