Mason’s Marks – what use are they?  ‘Who were the stonemason who left such a built legacy for us today? Archaeological building surveys often ignore mason’s marks or give them little importance. By systematically recording the locations of all marks they can help identify different building phases and add information on payment methods for the construction. To date Scotland’s Masons’ Marks Project has recorded marks on 79 buildings.’
